Carla Arkless – Pioneering Nurse Practitioner

It is with deep sadness we acknowledge the death of Carla Arkless on 6th October 2023. Carla was pioneering palliative care Nurse Practitioner, advocate for nursing and the wider community of people with palliative care needs.

We acknowledge with sincere gratefulness Carla’s passion and commitment to palliative care. Carla worked in rural New Zealand, in Southland and Nelson district, with a special interest in aged residential care. Carla was also a pioneer in the development of Advance Care Planning in New Zealand.

Carla was a passionate adventurer, environmentalist, animal welfare advocate and cyclist. In 2022 Carla, embarked on a world-wide cycling adventure, sadly cut short by illness. Carla is survived by her beloved son and you can read her recent story below.
